Explore the authentic cobblestoned streets of Old Lille
Lille is known to be the friendliest city in France. Immerse yourself into an authentic French city, rich of cultural heritage and innovative events.
Lille has always been famous for its well-preserved Flemish heritage. But over the years, it has also been recognised for its diverse cultural offers, made of festivals and museums.
Enjoy a laid back morning, by strolling into the authentic cobble streets of Old Lille. However, if you are looking for something a bit more intellectual, the choice of museums to visit is quite large:
– La Piscine de Roubaix is certainly the most stunning one, thanks to its stunning Art Deco architecture and original collection.
– Le Palais des Beaux Arts is more traditional. Its hosts a large collection of paintings, sculptures and even relief plans.
– Outside the city, one can also discover an annexe of the famous Louvre museum in Paris: Louvre-Lens.
– And many more…
For your lunch break, many options are available. A traditional dish from Northern France, such as the Welsh and the Carbonade, to be tasted in a local restaurant called Estaminet (l’Estaminet Aux vieux de la vieille, La Chicorée…). Or a comforting desi food meal in one the many Indian restaurants of Lille (Aux Inde, le Gan’ge…). A large option of Italian restaurant is also there, if you rather fancy a pizza or a pasta.
The afternoon is dedicated to better discover the city and its heritage. You can either opt for a traditional walking city tour of Old Lille. But if you are looking for something different, then we recommend a vintage car tour or a beer tour. The vintage car tour is ideal for families. On the other hand, with the beer tour, not only will you get to know about Lille and its history, but also will you get the chance to learn about the brewing of this ancestral local drink and taste some of the best beers from Northern France.
If you still have a bit of time and energy at the end of the day, do not miss a shopping session in the beautiful city centre or in the modern mall Euralille.
For the night lovers, Lille has a lot to offer. The ambiance from the many restaurants, bars and discothèque in the city centre will show you what a typical French nightlife is about.
